The Power of ONE Word
Revamp Your Life in 2024 .We stopped doing New Year's Resolutions a while ago and instead, we choose one word to center our focus for the entire year. This technique is called "The Word of the Year."
#onelittleword
Have you ever thought about choosing a word to define your path, goals, and mindset for the year? Focusing on a single concept can help with decision-making. I've personally selected a special word for the past three years, and you can read about my journey below. This year, I've chosen a word that resonates with me on a profound level, invigorating my thoughts, attitudes, and ambitions throughout the year.
Why is choosing a "word of the year" important? Consider the following reasons:
It helps with goal planning and achievement
It provides direction and keeps your mindset in the right place
It serves as a reminder to keep going, even when things get tough, and to remember why you started in the first place
It enables you to assess your projects and tasks before beginning, ensuring that they align with your overall objectives
Now that we've covered the importance of selecting a word of the year, let’s explore how you can get there .
Selecting Your Word of the Year in 3 Simple Steps
Choosing a word to guide your everyday actions and promote your mental, physical, and spiritual growth, is not just another goal to cross off your list. It's about nourishing your soul. Here are five easy steps to help you choose your word of the year for 2024.
Step 1: Reflect
Take a moment to reflect on the past year and ask yourself these questions. Write down whatever comes to mind without censoring yourself.
You can use our 2023 reflection guide if you haven’t done so. Get it HERE.
Step 2: Think about your values, intentions and goals for 2024
Before setting your sights on the future, it's important to understand the difference between values, intentions, and goals. Values are the core principles that guide your beliefs, while intentions are aspirations that are influenced by your values. Goals, on the other hand, are external markers of success that help you achieve your intentions. An example of this is if you believe in a work-life balance, your intention may be to prioritize self-care, and your goal may be to wake up an hour earlier to exercise before work.
Now, take a moment to reflect on your values and intentions in six different areas for 2024. Rather than setting strict goals, compare your current situation with where you want to be in each of these areas:
Relationships
Career
Physical health
Mental wellness
Hobbies and interests
Life achievements
Step 3: Make a list
Take ten minutes to jot down a list of words that come to mind, without any self-editing! Narrow down that list to one word that describes everything you want to achieve this year.
Here’s a list of possible words that could resonate with you .
Now you have your word!
Now you have your word ,take time to celebrate it! Write it down. Let it settle in. Feel it. Think about it. Share it with others around you!
For me, my word this year is "Cultivate."
Making intentional investments in the things that matter most.
Reading this meaning resonated with me on a deep level, and I knew immediately that CULTIVATE would.
Just as a rose garden flourishes and grows more beautiful with tender loving care, so does the mind when nurtured. When you cultivate your mind, you're not only exposed to new ideas and knowledge, but you experience growth and enrichment.
I want to invest in the things that matter most. These include relationships of all kinds ( My son , friendships , family, dating , business partnerships ) and myself (my health and wellbeing, mindfulness, self-care, purposeful vacation time, as well as furthering the success of H.E.R.)
I plan on cultivating radical acceptance and compassion , unwavering grace , audacious joy and unbridled happiness by spending more time investing in the things that matter most, and spending less time on the things that do not 2024 and beyond.
What is your word for 2024?
Cheers to an amazing 2024!
